From 28 to 30 August 2016 the AECR has met with AK Parti politicians in Ankara, Turkey. The results of this fact-finding mission will be published soon.
The mission was led by Vice President of the European Parliament and AECR Council Member Ryszard Czarnecki and included MEPs, MPs, AECR Council Members and other delegates from seven countries, the European Conservatives Group in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and Keti Mamulashvili, the Chairwoman of the European Young Conservatives.
The principle meetings included discussions with the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the Deputy Chairman of AK Parti and Chairman of the party’s Foreign Affairs Mehmet Mehdi Eker MP, AK Parti strategic advisor Afif Demirkiran, and the Youth and Sports Minister Akif Çağatay Kılıç.
The AECR delegation also visited the bombsites in front of and inside the Turkish Parliament, in front of the Presidential Palace, and in the police headquarters in Gölbaşı.
The results of this mission will be presented to the AECR Council at our next conference in Prague on 16-18 September 2016.
