ACRE & IDU raise concerns about a politically motivated attack on PzP party leader, Nebojsa Medojevic
The Alliance of Conservatives & Reformists in Europe (ACRE) and International Democrat Union (IDU) express growing concern over a politically motivated investigation against the Movement for Changes (PzP) Party Chairman, Nebojsa Medojevic.
With a document sent a few days ago, Special Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic has asked the Parliament of Montenegro to lift Nebojsa Medojevic’s parliamentary immunity, in an attempt to arrest and prosecute him. PzP Director, Dejan Vujisić; Party Secretary Željko Scepanovic; Konatar Gordan; and Momir Nikolic, have already been in custody since May 15th.
At this stage, ACRE & IDU consider this to be a coordinated and politically motivated attack against the opposition in Montenegro. PzP party leader Nebojsa Medojevic argues:
"A political persecution is being led against PzP, and the command was given to the Special Prosecutor by the Prime Minister."
The Administrative Committee of the Parliament will discuss the prosecutor’s request and the decision to lift immunity will be put to a full parliamentary vote, scheduled for Monday, June 12th.
ACRE & IDU emphasise the seriousness of lifting parliamentary immunity, and urge full transparency and due diligence if this process is pursued.
ACRE & IDU continues to support Nebojsa Medojevic and its member party Movement for Changes (PzP), and will follow the situation closely.
