Blue Green - Baltic Sea Summit

24 April 2019  |  Swedish Parliament House - Riksdagshuset, Stockholm

The Baltic Sea is almost totally surrounded by land and therefore more endangered by pollution than other marine areas, in fact it is one of the most polluted seas in the world. Most of the pollution originates from inland activities. Engaging and activating local stakeholders in the 1,500 municipalities in the Baltic Sea area is crucial to restore the Baltic Sea and would benefit the marine ecosystems as well as the 9 million people living in the region. Furthermore, geopolitical factors such as Nordstream II, the influence of Russia as well as cross-border crime and cyber security issues present a clear threat to this important resource.

The Alliance of Conservatives and Reformists in Europe (ACRE) will be organising a one-day seminar in Sweden looking at how we can best improve the Baltic Sea Environment,
discussing the power of market competition to inspire clean and efficient water and waste. Recognising that government regulation and individual benevolence, alone, are forecast to be insufficient to face the environmental challenges ahead. With keynote speeches and topic driven panels we will discuss the need for breakthroughs in green technology, and the regulatory structures that best allow these to take place. Significant innovation breakthroughs will make the green option the cost-effective one; such that economic development and environmental improvement can be concurrent phenomena as often as possible.

The programme of this convention covers:

Environmental sustainability
Fisheries
Dumped Munitions
Nord stream 2
Russia
Cross-border crime
Cyber Security
