PRESS RELEASE OF THE ALLIANCE OF CONSERVATIVES AND REFORMISTS IN EUROPE (ACRE)
The dark legacy of the communist system, and the developments of post-communism, will be the focus of ACRE's The Liberty Summit in Europe being held from the 7th to 9th of April in Tirana, Albania, on the centenary year of the Bolshevik revolution
The three-day summit will include a visit to Bunkart, several exciting keynote speeches, and a host of fringe events. There will be a panel discussing the damaging legacy of communism in ex-communist countries, a panel on the incomplete transition from communism and the challenges that poses, and a panel on the need for a new strategy to build prosperal, liberal democracies. Speakers include Daniel Hannan MEP, Ryszard Legutko MEP, prominent historian Norman Stone, award-winning finance professor Yaron Brook, journalist Mark Wallace and many more.
2017 marks the centenary year of the Bolshevik Revolution, yet much of the evil done in the name of communism has been forgotten. Memory of the famines, forced relocations and purges is fading. As a result there has been a resurgence of communist and socialist ideologies. The Liberty Summit in Europe will look, not only at the wickedness of Communism itself, but at the way it vitiated civil society, making it difficult to rebuild social capital. It will also look at how we can preserve the lessons of history on the failings of communism. As ACRE Secretary General Daniel Hannan put it:
Communism must be reckoned in crude mathematic terms the most murderous system ever devised by human intelligence; and yet this is an argument we have to have, generation after generation. Consider this; one third of American millennials believe that more people were murdered by George W. Bush than Joseph Stalin. This is not an argument we can take for granted.
We are sure this exciting and timely Liberty Summit will provide great insights and valuable lessons for the future. Visit the website here.
